What to expect

Before you begin counselling or psychotherapy you will have an initial non-obligatory consultation with the individual practitioner. This session is paid and you need to inquiry with the individual practitioner about the fee and availability.

During the initial consultation we will discuss what prompted you to seek therapy.  We will explore what you would like to gain from therapy. The practitioner will suggest a possible way of working together which would be shaped by client and therapist in the following sessions.  You will get a chance to ask questions and share any concerns.

Individual therapy usually takes place once a week at the same time and place. It can be either:

• short term – usually 6 to 12 sessions – more structured and focused on solving the identified problem or situation or

• long term – lasting for a several months and sometimes even a few years.
